The Step-By-Step Guide on How To Putting Up A Gazebo

Setting up a gazebo is fairly straightforward, and it's usually easy enough to do it in a few minutes. Just follow these steps and you'll be lounging under your gazebo tent in no time!

Step 1: Pick Your Spot And Set Out The Pieces

Where you set up your gazebo is almost as important as how you set it up. Find a place that's as flat as possible (you may even want to level out any uneven spots with a shovel), and away from any obstacles or things you might trip over. Then lay out the gazebo's parts and read through the instructions.

Step 2: Spread Out The Frame

The next step in how to set up a gazebo is taking the frame and spreading it out. Position at least two people on opposite corners of the gazebo and have them each hold a leg. Lift the gazebo frame a little off the ground and slowly walk backwards until the frame is mostly but not completely opened - that'll make it easier to put the canopy on.

Step 3: Place The Canopy On Top

Next, evenly spread the canopy over the top of the frame, then secure its corners to the frame using the Velcro pads under the leg caps. Doing this before the frame is fully extended will make it easier to fit the canopy and help avoid stretching out the fabric.

Step 4: Fully Extend The Frame

Now that the canopy is in place, you can stretch the frame out all the way. Grab the bottoms of the middle cross beams, lift them a little and walk backwards until the frame is fully extended. Make sure the top is straight and correctly fitted before you extend the frame all the way, and watch you don't pinch your fingers or force the frame and bend it.

Step 5: Lock The Frame Together

You're nearly there now! On each corner, hold the leg down while pushing the sliders into position to lock the frame in place, then attach the strap to the beam using the clip.

Step 6: Set The Height Of The Legs

Now you can adjust the height of your gazebo by pulling out the inner part of each leg until it snaps into the desired position. Do this to each leg, ensuring they're all the same height.

Step 7: Stake it Down & Attach Guy Lines

Use the pegs that came with your gazebo to stake it down by hammering them into the holes at the base of the frame's legs. If you're setting up the gazebo at the beach, you may want to secure the legs with weights and use pegs designed for sand. For extra stability, tie guy lines from the top of the legs to pegs set further away from the gazebo.

How To Dismantle Your Gazebo When You're Done

When it comes time to take down your gazebo, all you need to do is follow the same steps in reverse. Start by removing the guy lines and pegs, then lower the legs and unlock the corner sliders. Next, walk the frame in all the way and remove the canopy. Remove any dirt or sand from the canopy and frame (more on that below), pack everything away in the storage bag, and you're done!

Gazebo Safety Tips To Keep In Mind

  • Stability: The better you secure your gazebo, the less likely it is to move around if the weather gets windy. Carefully pegging down the feet and using weights and guy lines will help ensure it stays put.
  • Location: Before you set up your gazebo, look at what's overhead. Choose a spot that's at least 2m away from hazards like power lines and overhanging branches.
  • Heat: Your gazebo's fabric can melt or even burn if it's too close to a heat source, so keep it well away from campfires or cooking stoves.
  • Time: Gazebos are designed for short-term use and shouldn't be left standing for long periods, especially in windy or rainy conditions that could damage it and make it unsafe.
  • Set up: You need at least two people to set up a gazebo safely, and anyone not involved in putting it up should stand well clear.

Tips For Maintaining Your Gazebo And Prolonging Its Life

Your gazebo is designed to give you many years of happy use, and with a little basic maintenance you can extend its lifespan even longer.

Clean Your Gazebo Thoroughly After Each Use

Each time you set up your gazebo, it's important to clean it off before you pack it away - especially if you've had it in salty or wet conditions. Wipe down the canopy and frame with soapy water, rinse them off and let them dry thoroughly.

Rust-Proof All The Metal Parts

Use a rust-prevention treatment such as a silicone spray on all the metal components of your gazebo, including the frame, connectors and zippers.

Stop Rain From Pooling On The Canopy

If water pools on your gazebo's canopy, it could stretch or damage the fabric. The Dune 4WD Anti Ponding Bar Kit increases water runoff from your gazebo, helping protect its waterproofing and structural integrity.

Check The Frame Fittings Regularly

Give your gazebo's frame a close inspection frequently to make sure all the nuts, bolts and connectors are securely fitted and tight.

Pack Everything Away As It Came

Store the canopy and frame in their separate pockets in the carrying case so they don't wear against each other and damage the fabric.
