Discover the Different Types of Fishing Line Available
Choose from a wide range of fishing line including:
- Monofilament Fishing Line: Mono fishing line is a popular choice thanks to many benefits including stretch, shock rate, colour palette, ease of use and knot strength.
- Braided Fishing Line: Braid line is ideal for catching big fish thanks to its great strength, lack of stretch and resistance to abrasion. It's perfect for deep saltwater anglers.
- Leader Line: Typically, leader lines are thinner and less visible to fish than your main fishing line, resulting in more hits, and if you use an abrasion-resistant fluorocarbon leader line you can save wear and tear on your main line.
Fishing Line FAQs
How to tie a hook to a fishing line?
There are several ways to tie fishing hooks to fishing lines. Some popular knot types include a Uni Knot, Half Blood Knot and Loop Knot. Discover the complete Guide on Three Basic Fishing Knots on the Adventure Centre blog.
How do you rig a fishing line?
Start by choosing the right fishing line for your rod and reel - monofilament is a popular choice for general use, but braided lines offer strength and sensitivity for tougher conditions. Once you've spooled your line, it's time to tie a strong knot to attach the hook or lure to the end of your line, such as a Palomar knot or improved clinch knot.
Next, depending on the type of fishing you're doing, you might need to add a weight or sinker, such as a split-shot sinker or barrel sinker that might be better for surfcasting. Position the sinker about 30-40cm above the hook to help your bait sink properly. If you're using a float or bobber, attach it to your line a little higher up to keep your bait near the surface. Finally, check your line for any tangles, twists, or weak spots before casting out.
What terminal tackle is recommended to use with a fishing line?
At Anaconda, you get to combine highest quality braid, monofilament and fluorocarbon fishing line with terminal tackle such as Black Magic tackle, Jarvis Walker tackle, soft plastic lures and other fishing tackle from major brands. Top products worth considering include Berkley Trilene, Daiwa J-Braid and angling accessories from Halco, Shogun and many other great manufacturers on the market. Certain types of line are more suitable for certain species of fish and certain locations, and a lot of the choice also comes down to the fisherman's personal preference.
